New Voices '22

Tell us about yourself:

I’m an artist, an entrepreneur, a writer and a revolutionary. In 2017, when I was released from a decade-long sentence in federal prison, I’d never heard of a podcast. Today, I’m finishing one up for the Invisible Institute and USG Audio. It’s been three years in the making and not only have I learned a ton, I’m excited to start on the next one.

A piece of yours or project (in any medium) that you'd like to share.

I don’t have anything to share yet, but be in the lookout for You Didn’t See Nothin in March 2023!

What draws you to storytelling?

The fact that most of the narratives around Black life have been constructed by the descendants of our enslavers is what draws me to telling stories of Black life as it’s actually lived… by Black folks!

What excites you the most about being a New Voices Scholar?

The opportunity to meet so many people from so many places with such huge wealths of knowledge is what excites me most about being a New Voices Scholar.

What’s playing on your radio/audio streaming service right now?

Right now, Straight Shot No Chaser with Tezlyn Figaro is playing in my streaming service.

What’s the most underrated tool (technical or not) that you use in your creative process?

The most underrated tool in my creative process is PATIENCE.

What is something you want to see more of in the industry?

I want to see more non-traditional Black storytellers delivering the stories that white American media has been botching for centuries.

What are your radio/audio aspirations?

I’m inspired by all of the journalists dedicated to giving platforms to the voices that have otherwise gone unheard.
