About Xandra
Hi! I'm Xandra, an award-winning journalist and audio producer with a passion for stories that spark wonder and make readers and listeners feel more connected to their community.
Currently based in Philadelphia, I grew up in Colorado where I spent four years working at Colorado Public Radio, reporting and producing on a range of topics from arts and culture to waste and recycling programs. I then spent two years at City Cast making hyperlocal, daily news podcasts.
As Executive Producer of City Cast Philly, I managed a team of three, pre-interviewed and booked guests, coached and prepped the host, edited and mixed audio, edited the daily newsletter, and provided editorial support on story pitches.
Lately, as a freelancer, I manage and oversee the development and production process of eight podcasts hosted by different higher ed institutions across the country including UC Berkeley, UPenn, and University of Michigan. My responsibilities include working with university clients on their vision for the show and podcast growth goals, running recording sessions with their guests, editing audio, and writing show notes.
Xandra's Portfolio
I am the host and creator of the podcast, How We Met: A Queer Love Archive. How We Met is a non-narrated podcast that shares real stories of how LGBTQ couples fell in love, in their own words. This project aims to serve two purposes: Amplify queer joy and serve as a historical record for queer people’s experiences, across generations, through the lens of love.
As a producer and reporter for CPR News, I often did radio features like this one about a haunted boutique hotel in a small mountain town in Colorado that's really leaning into its legends and lore. I did all mixing and sound design for my radio features.
This is one of my favorite episodes I produced for City Cast Denver. It was loads of fun to interview the family behind this iconic goth boutique in Denver, and it was even more fun putting the story together. I did all sound design, editing and mixing for this episode.
This interview I produced with former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur won the Colorado Matters team a SPJ award for Best News Special and an AP Television and Radio silver award for Best Special Programming.
