About Molly
Aloha, my name is Molly Noelaniokekai Mamaril and I serve as the host and producer of two Honolulu-based podcasts: "Above the Sides" and "Heartbeat Narratives." My joy comes from having meaningful conversations with people because it is an opportunity to connect on a deeper level. Every single person has a story and I feel strongly that we must lead with curiosity in order to learn from those around us.
I hold a B.A. in Communication & Journalism from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and a M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Environmental writing and podcast production are two areas that I would like to explore further through freelancing or learning from other creators.
In my full time job, I work at the intersection of community innovation and economic development with the Oʻahu Economic Development Board. I have previous experience in conservation, ʻāina-based (land-based) education and evaluation, public health and community event management. I love Hawaiʻi and will do everything I can to uplift the voices of the people who are committed to our island home.
Molly's Portfolio
Join us on our journey to uncover what it means to think, act, and live aloha. The late Pono Shim, former President and CEO of the Oʻahu Economic Development Board, is the inspiration for this podcast. His stories capture the essence of what it means to live aloha. Through his words, he made it known that aloha is a lifestyle - not a solution to problems, a marketing brand or intended to be used as an advantage over anyone else. Aloha is to be honored and practiced. The name of this podcast is in reverence of Queen Liliʻuokalani, who wrote: "To gain the kingdom of heaven is to hear what is not said, to see what cannot be seen, and to know the unknowable – that is Aloha. All things in this world are two; in heaven there is but One.” Through these episodes, we seek to find that singular perspective, the one that is "above the sides."
Welcome to Heartbeat Narratives, a podcast about the passions, places and people that we love. Based in Kaimukī, Hawaiʻi, guests from the islands and around the world will share their stories of joy - what makes their hearts beat. Host and producer, Molly Mamaril, intends for this podcast to be an uplifting space for listeners to glimpse the inner lives and interests of different people. Her hope is that we will recognize that everyone has a valuable story and that we can cultivate more meaningful relationships by leading with curiosity. Enjoy these narratives of the heart!
