Kevin Kato

Kevin is the host and producer of the narrative music show Bonus Smiles. The broadcast and podcast are fueled by runners and their playlists that power the shared miles and stories on trail, from Cocodona to local runs.

He's the veteran trash panda who calls the dumpster behind his local public radio station home. Kevin loves snacks, running distances people hate driving, and above all the communities that comprise the trail, ultra, and public radio worlds--the friend, family member, or rando cheering you on at a Mile 77 aid station is the same kind of person who supports local public radio. They both care about community when it hurts.

Kevin loves volunteering at his local station bringing good vibes, snacks, and a camera or two! Prior to running his media production company, he worked in higher education teaching writing and journalism. In partnership with the News Director of his local NPR member station he also co-founded a student newsroom which is now an award winning student newsroom! The Student Newsroom produces two shows, The Hot Spot (in English), and Siendo Primero (in Spanish).
