About Jude

I am a reporter at NPR as of April 2024. I recently returned to California after a long stint in Arizona. I've produced longform audio for podcasts and edited for Critical Frequency's Drilled podcast. I spent several years as a public radio reporter in the Southwest covering politics, immigration and border issues for KJZZ-Phoenix and Fronteras Desk, a regional public media collaboration. My radio stories often aired nationally on Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Here & Now and The World. I've also co-authored a narrative nonfiction book (named one of NPR's Books We Love in 2021), reported and edited for The Associated Press, contributed digital stories to the Guardian, and served as a contract editor for NAHJ's palabra. I learned how to make radio at U.C. Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism and did my first stories for KALW in San Francisco over 15 years ago.
