About Elna
I have spent over a decade working in the rather small audio journalism industry in South Africa, so I have had a chance to get good at many different things!
My favourite place to be is closest to the content, whether that is researching important guests, running after goats for ambi, or trying to get giggling teenagers to stick to the topic. I am fully skilled and experienced in everything that comes before and after that, from pitching ideas to scripting and editing, and I love getting a story just right.
In practice, this might look like working on a project where I bring you content from my country or remotely in a different context. In terms of topics, I've covered everything from protests to fine dining, but I am most passionate about health, science, and human rights issues.
Please note that I do regularly write articles, which you can see some of on my website.
Elna's Portfolio
I reported a three-part series on the Just Energy Transition in South Africa for Heat of the Moment by Foreign Policy. Here is the first story, which took me to a rural coal mine as it was shut down.
In the next episodes I looked at the national planning of the transition and visited a renewable energy plant.
This audio story is for a series called The Long Game and the Doha Debates. It looks at the historic South African win of the Rugby World Cup in 1995 and what it meant for the young democracy.
Here is an example of a corporate-sponsored podcast that I produce and host.
I have executive produced over three seasons of this global human rights podcast, that has featured guests from around the world, including from exile and war zones.
