On the Jan. 20, 2023 edition of Open Source RVA public affairs show, topics focused on celebrations at Richmond's Poe Museum as well as hot button issues being debated and protested at the Virginia General Assembly this session. I interviewed Rae Ann Pickett, communications director of the Virginia League For Planned Parenthood who spoke about the Jan. 26 lobbying day slated to challenge the dozens of anti-abortion bills being filed by legislators this session. I also interviewed Katina Harris, President of the Richmond Education Association, and Boaz Young El of the VIrginia Education Association, about the crucial issues facing public K-12 students this year, and about the Fund our Schools rally that happened outside the capital on MLK Day. And speaking of protests on MLK Day, our special correspondent Goad Gatsby files an explosive report from Monday's gun rights rally. IT'S SIMPLY TOO MUCH SOURCE!!!
Back to school week in 2021 was like no other coming out of the pandemic. A group of brave Richmond, Virginia-area teens came together in August before heading back to class through a Richmond Young Writers week-long Radio Camp I led focused on education, their experiences over the year during the pandemic and what made their experiences unique. Listen to their powerful words. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to attend school board meetings wherever you are. This first aired on WRIR 97.3 fm Richmond Independent Radio on Fri., Sept. 10, 2021 at 10am. Thanks to Melissa Vaughn, Sean Lovelace, Baylen Forcier & Krysti Albus for production help.
