About Briana
Hi! I'm Briana, a native Cincinnatian currently living in Detroit.
I was named 2022's Young Journalist of the Year by Detroit's Society of Professional Journalists this year.
I have experience writing plays and short films as well as working as a professional journalist. I'm currently working as a reporter for Michigan Radio, but I previously worked as a breaking news reporter and trending reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer and an assignment editor and digital producer for Cincinnati's FOX19.
As part of my work, I've always been heavily interested in audience engagement and working to build relationships with diverse communities. That has involved figuring out how to get stories to the communities I'm covering and prioritizing stories that I think those communities will care about.
I feel like public radio and audio is a great way to connect with people who aren't always served by media. I like to think of how a story might best reach an audience whether it be through spot news, a feature, a web post or social media.
I'm looking for freelance reporting and social media work. I'm really open to whatever that work might look like, because I'm definitely interested in playing and growing as a reporter.

Many renters in Detroit are living in uninhabitable homes, according to a study from the University of Michigan. Moldy walls, water backed up in the basement, broken porch steps and a lack of hot water can make a home unsafe.
But renters do have options to get their landlord to fix the issues. Here’s how one Detroiter did it.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib has been censured, in part, due to her use of the slogan, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Here's what Michiganders feel when they hear the phrase.
Michigan is home to thousands of people with ties to the region torn apart by war between Israel and Hamas.
The University of Michigan has one of the largest Jewish populations among public universities in the U.S. Some students there have said they have friends and family in Israel whom they expect to be fighting on the front lines.
Metro Detroit has some of the largest Arab and Muslim communities in America. Some members of those communities say they have family in Gaza, and they worry for their safety constantly.
