About Alix
I am an independent producer based in the Bay Area, California. I am a graduate of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Radio and a recent Masters graduate of the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. I have worked for several years with the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke which included working under the mentorship of John Biewen (Scene on Radio) and I have interned for the Kitchen Sisters. I have taught several audio documentary workshops, including at Diné College in the Navajo Nation, with refugee youth at Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, and I co-taught a seminar for the Nicholas School of the Environment, with John Biewen, teaching scientists and environmental researchers how to create audio stories of their field work.
I am also a photographer and documentary filmmaker (http://farmerveteran.com). My work has been featured on PRI's The World, The Story, Hearing Voices, Marketplace, the Gravy Podcast, Re:Sound, as well as others. I was as a ShortDoc winner at Third Coast International Audio Festival in 2013.
When I was a child, I wanted to be a mermaid or ninja-assassain when I grew up.
