About Alia
I'm an emerging audio producer and recent graduate of KALW's Audio Academy training program. Among other things, I am interested in long- and short-form storytelling about changing landscapes, living archives, and cultural production.
Before turning to audio storytelling, I spent a decade in grassroots organizing in Seattle, Washington. My background is in public health, and I've worked in the legal, non-profit, and food services industries. My varied history brought me to the same conclusion: There is always a story to be told.

When visual artist, journalist, and photographer Lara Aburamadan picked up a camera for the first time, she wanted to share the reality of daily life in her hometown, Gaza City.
She used social media to show what mainstream media wouldn’t. Lara’s dream was to use her art as a tool for social change. Now, she’s a co-founder of Refugee Eye in San Francisco’s Mission District. It’s an art gallery where refugee artists share their experiences and work.
KALW’s Jenee Darden spoke with Lara about storytelling and how she brought her art gallery dream to life.
The devastating earthquake that rocked Syria and Turkey earlier this week has impacted thousands in the Middle East, in addition to their loved ones in the Bay Area. Now, community members are working to raise funds.
Palestine solidarity activists gathered in front of the Israeli consulate to protest rising Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians across the West Bank.
This sound art commission was aired on January 27, 2024 for episode 13 of Arab.AMP Folktales series. It uses found footage to archive and repurpose testimonies of Palestinians in Gaza from October 2023 through January 2024.
This year marks 75 years since armed Zionist militias violently expelled more than 80% of Palestinians from their homes and established the state of Israel.
Some Palestinian families became internally displaced into refugee camps and neighboring towns inside of Palestine. Others became refugees in other countries. What they all have in common is that they survived the Nakba — meaning “catastrophe.”
Many Nakba survivors found their adopted home in the Bay Area. And three generations later, it hosts one of the most prominent communities in the country. To Palestinians — the Nakba never ended. The survivors, their children, and their grandchildren are still fighting to return home.
Berkeley was instrumental in creating a national women’s movement in the US — from suffrage in the late 1890s and the gender revolution in the 60s and 70s. Since those times, there have been diverse iterations and evolutions of feminist ideals that define what it means today. The Palestinian Feminist Collective is a group that’s defining feminism on its own terms. They tie it to liberation from sexual and colonial violence in Palestine. Cofounder Maisa Morrar talks about their definition of feminism and how healing women is a core part of their work.
In Oakland, everyone has their go-to corner store. Reporter Alia Taqieddin sure does. But she found out her local corner store owner is grappling with a question she also faces: about where to find home.
Midcentury Richmond had a renowned Blues scene. Today it’s almost underground, but dedicated locals are determined to keep the Blues in town.
