Open call for pitches: enterprise reporting on health and science issues

Posted: January 3, 2022

The Pulse, WHYY’s weekly health and science radio show and podcast is looking for long-form, deeply reported enterprise stories that have a strong health and science angle.

Stories can be between 8-20 minutes, and should stand out in terms of breaking new ground on an issue, and having great access to sources. Sound-rich stories are always a plus, but good quality sound for interviews etc is key.

Please send concise pitches (no more than 400 words) that describe your project to Lindsay Lazarski at [email protected].

If you are not sure if your project is a fit, feel free to send an email to discuss.

The Pulse is heard on public radio stations across the country, including WNYC, WAMU, WGBH, KJZZ etc.

Our fee structure is negotiable depending on reporter’s experience and scope of work

We will evaluate pitches monthly. Once a pitch is accepted, we will set up an edit structure that works for you. We usually don’t schedule pieces until at least the first edit is finished, so our timeline tends to work for busy reporters who want to work on a side project.

Depending on the story, we’re able to work with reporters who are new to audio, and guide them through the process.
