YR Media, formerly Youth Radio, is an award-winning national network of diverse young journalists and artists from underrepresented communities who create content for this generation. Headquartered in downtown Oakland, California, we link up with our peers around the country to amplify music and stories that matter. For more than 25 years, our non-profit production company has invested in future generations to build crucial skills in journalism, arts and media.
YR Media works with content creators between the ages of 14 and 29, and offers freelance opportunities for contributors on a per-piece basis. The best YR Media stories point to the intersection between narrative and newsy. Topics we cover include race/inequity, gender/LGBTQ, STEM/tech, health/mental health, politics/activism, juvenile justice, pop culture, music and the arts. We work in all formats, and are especially interested in contributors with video and multimedia experience for our online platform that targets an 18-to-29 audience demo, although we also distribute commentary and features to local and national radio outlets, and produce audio stories for our podcast Adult ISH.
