The Talent Committee and MQ2 crew knocked around great ideas this week as nominations stack up and the project continues to evolve. In just about 10 days time, the committee will decide on who to invite to submit proposals. Conversations were aimed at forming a common vision of what constitutes a winner; what qualities will distinguish the final group? Originality was a big theme. And collaboration. And diversity. How to define it, how to identify it, why it’s important, how to gauge what constitutes “otherness?” There are traditional definitions — culture, race, sexual orientation. The discussion stretched into considerations of age, geography, political POV, breaking new ground in the sound of public radio. And if we say diversity is important, does that mean “white men need not apply?” (someone’s asked) The answer is no. Yet there are no single answers. See the latest tweaks to the Evaluation Criteria.
