About Sona
I've been a writer for as long as I can remember. I've published several short stories in local and nationally distributed journals and two interviews on The Rumpus. A few years ago, I started making audio stories. I'm looking for full or part time work or to collaborate with anyone. My strengths are writing, researching, fact checking, tracking, and brainstorming.
Sona's Portfolio
For this piece which ran on KALW's award-winning show, Crosscurrents, I interviewed head coach for the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr about his grandparents who were instrumental in saving a number of orphans' lives after the Armenian Genocide and how this translates into his current support for the Black Lives Matter matter. I also interviewed a woman whose father was one of the orphans saved by the Kerrs.
For this piece, which I co-reported with KALW's Justice Reporter, Holly McDede, we interviewed the five activists who went on a hunger strike in 2016 to protest police killing in San Francisco of black and brown people. The story aired shortly after the murder of George Floyd and again in the spring of 2016 for the five year anniversary.
This is a non-narrated piece I produced in the early days of the Corona Virus pandemic. I interviewed one of the biologists at the California Academy of Sciences who was tasked with feeding Claude, the resident albino alligator while the academy was closed.
For this piece I talk with my cousin about her mother's dementia. This piece was made for KCRW's 24 Hour Radio Race, 2020 with Imran Ali Malik, Sarah Lai Stirland, and Christoper Egusa. The theme was "time warp." Original score and sound design by Imran Ali Malik.
Extensive fact checking for Wild Things, an eight part series from Apple and At Will Media on the lives of Siegfried and Roy. Tasks included verifying sources, reviewing supporting copy, providing feedback to writers and producers, and attending weekly team meetings.
Science Diction, extensive fact checking for WNYC show, The Rise of The Myers-Briggs, Chapter 3: What Is It Good For? Verified sources, reviewed supporting copy, provided feedback to reporters.
