About Sararosa
Sararosa Davies is a freelance audio journalist, podcast producer and writer. Most recently, she was a staff associate producer at OffScrip Health, where she produced the company's flagship show and developed narrative segments. She also served as audio producer for a documentary project called Public Plea about incarceration of youth of color in Oregon. Public Plea was produced in partnership with the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, The Oregonian and Oregon Public Broadcasting.
Prior to her other positions, Sararosa was a production fellow at Tight Lipped, a podcast and community organizing project on chronic pelvic pain. Other projects she has worked on include the podcast Spooning with Spoonies, and an upcoming podcast series from the nonprofit Journalistic Learning Initiative.
In college, she was a production assistant at opbmusic from Oregon Public Broadcasting in Portland, Oregon. Before that, she was an arts desk intern at Eugene Weekly in Eugene, Oregon, where she covered everything from local theatre to organic lubricant.
She has had audio stories appear on KEXP's Sound & Vision and Oregon Public Broadcasting. Written bylines include Everyday Health, Eater PDX, Sirius XM, City Pages Music and NPR Music. Her beats include music, health, wellness and the intersection of the arts with social justice issues.
Sararosa was a guest on 89.3 The Current's Local Show in 2016 for her work in the local music scene in Minnesota during her high school years. She also appeared on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Think Out Loud in 2019 — where she talked about her experience coping with a chronic illness called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome while in college.
Outside of work, Sararosa enjoys sewing, long walks and playing with her dog, Wheeler. She lives in Portland. You can find her at @humansofhummus on Twitter.
Sararosa's Portfolio
I co-produced, edited, sound designed , scored and mixed a podcast on incarceration of youth of color in Oregon and mandatory minimum sentencing, I worked on this project for two years with a former professor of mine, students and other alumni from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. The Oregonian published the five-part podcast series and OPB aired the documentary in February 2022.
David McGraw is the drummer for Seattle soul outfit The True Loves and is an acupuncturist by day. I caught up with him to hear how his day job informs his music. and vice-versa. We spoke about how he uses music in his acupuncture practice and the awareness he needs for both jobs. I reported and produced this story for KEXP's Sound & Vision. All of the reporting was done on a remote basis.
