About Sarah
Sarah Lai Stirland is a freelance journalist and editor living in Los Gatos, California.
I currently contribute to KALW's nationally-syndicated show Philosophy Talk, and co-direct and teach KALW's Summer Podcasting Instute for teens. The students learn how to report and write for radio and podcasts, with the end product being "tbh," a podcast for their peers.
In 2023, I also spearheaded a multi-media youth journalism partnership between KALW and the Mosaic Journalism workshop run by current and former Mercury News journalists in San Jose.
My reporting background is in technology, science writing, law and policy.
For the past year and a half, I've worked at the startup Ready - Broadband Money helping the company with all of its writing needs and managing its digital community and audience engagement. I also conducted many of its live Ask-Me-Anything events online and produced its "Where's The Funding" series.
I have a wide range of interests, and one of my developing ones is child development and parenting. I'm originally from Hong Kong and England.
I was a fellow in KALW's Audio Academy class of 2020.
