About Sarah

If you told me five years ago I’d be shooting video, writing for radio, webifying stories and photographing everything from dairy princesses to draft horses I’d have fallen off my ergonomic office chair laughing. Today, I’m a freelance multimedia journalist creating content that connects communities. After working more than two decades as a newspaper and magazine editor, I was laid off. I got the message: time to reinvent. I pitched, wrote and produced a book about our local fair, “100 Years at the Northwest Washington Fair,” where I learned about everything from heifer breeding to hen washing. I built skills in audio reporting and video production and began to do stories for Seattle NPR affiliate KUOW. As an adjunct journalism professor at Western Washington University, I received a grant to create online learning materials and developed an interactive online tool called AP Gizmos to build students’ skills with AP Style. I do public relations for non-profits and arts groups. As a long-time member of the all-ages dance cooperative Dance Gallery, I choreograph, study and perform with local dance groups. I serve as treasurer on the board of directors of the Asian American Journalists Association Seattle chapter. I might even learn to code. More adventures beckon. Follow them on Twitter @sarahedenw.
