My name is Olivia Milloway (she/her) and I’m a researcher and science journalist currently based in Panama City, Panama. Working at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute as a Fulbright Student Grantee, I investigate invasive marine fish in the Panama Canal and their associated parasites.
Before coming to Panama, I created, produced, and edited Sea to Trees, Acadia National Park’s official narrative science podcast. My work has appeared in The Bitter Southerner, The Working Waterfront Newspaper, Park Science Magazine, and more.
I earned a bachelors of science in environmental sciences and biology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Through a career in environmental journalism, I hope to use storytelling to further environmental justice and equitable conservation.
Sea to Trees is a podcast from Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park that tells the stories of the science happening in and around Acadia, from the rocky shoreline to the evergreen forests to the granite mountaintops. In season one, we’re exploring the ever-growing field of citizen science–the participation of non-scientists in research at any level–and how it can help answer questions about our changing world. Can citizen science shape our relationship with nature?
The Moment is a podcast for the Emory College Woodruff Scholars Program that explores the questions, issues, and challenges that shape how Scholars experience their identities in the Scholar community and their relationships with one another. The Moment is collaborative, inclusive, and multi-vocal, and it features interviews, conversations, and contributions from Scholars, Scholar Alums, and Friends of the Program. Even if we cannot share a physical space, we can always share The Moment.
Green burials — the long-ago practice of laying loved ones to rest in biodegradable wooden caskets or shrouds, without embalming — are gaining in popularity. The movement is made up of a diverse coalition: environmentalists, historic preservationists, and folks looking to cut costs — and all looking for options not offered within the traditional funeral industry.
