About Noor
I am a documentary poet, oral historian, and freelance audio producer based in Detroit/Dearborn/Ann Arbor. I'm interested in the confluence between space and memory, and in the intimacy of audio storytelling as listeners allow new voices into their ears. I graduated from the Transom Traveling Workshop in Detroit in December 2019, and have since worked on production for podcasts including Your Undivided Attention, NHPR's Outside/In, Babel: Translating the Middle East, and for clients like Wondery, LWC Studios, and Marvel. I've worked as a researcher, fact checker, producer, booker, editor, sound designer, and tape syncher. From 2016 - 2017, I was based in Amman, Jordan collecting oral histories with Iraqis in diaspora as a Fulbright Fellow. In 2018, I was an Atlas Obscura Editorial Fellow in Brooklyn, NY. I have taught workshops on trauma-informed storytelling at UC Berkeley, and on Developing Your Editorial Voice for AIR.
Currently, I am a Creative Writing MFA candidate at the University of Michigan. I am fluent in Arabic, and have experience working with a variety of communities, including indigenous Americans.

Basterma in Detroit
Sarms Jabra immigrated to Michigan with his family when he was just six years old. Though he has few memories of Baghdad, Kim's grocery is a space where he can exist simultaneously in Baghdad and Detroit.
