I'm the creator and host of the independent podcast Parks: the Indigenous history of the colonization of National Park land in the U.S. I've worked as a producer and fact-checker for shows like American Prodigies and Kaiser Health News: American Diagnosis. I've also worked as an audio intern for USA TODAY. I also teach for the University of Chicago as a podcast instructor for highschool students.
As a fact-checker, I've worked on pieces for The Nation, EHRP and Outside Magazine. I run a google group called Fact Check Us, and attended M.I.T's KSJ Fact-checking workshop this year.
As a photographer, I freelance around the midwest for The Washington Post and The New York Times. I've also been a photo editor at Outside Magazine and NPR.
Other audio projects included working on the Mothership podcast, and Cup of Politics.
I, and a small team, have developed Parks over the last year. We are an independent podcast and rely on donations to pay for parts of production and contributing back to our storytellers communities in the name of reciprocity.
Parks is a journalistic project that not only explains past and present environmental injustices, but it also explores what in-depth reporting would look like if we asked deeper questions about the colonial aspects of journalism and how to adjust them for subject matter. Parks aims to change many ethical issues that we want to see in future journalism, including decolonizing our language, along with a lot more.
