Mary is available forI'm looking for contract production work, narrative script-writing, story-editing, and any new endeavors that need someone with fresh ideas, leadership capabilities, and an annoyingly ambitious mindset.
I'm a multi-media journalist and have worked professionally in video, photo, and audio. The diversity in my work allows me to be adaptable to new environments and work...and keep things funky.
I'm currently working on an independent podcast called Parks, an audio documentary on the history of Indigenous land theft that lead to the creation of America's National Parks.
I've been a photo editor at Outside Magazine and NPR, a freelancer across the U.S. for The New York Times and Washington Post, and have worked as an audio intern at USA TODAY. I also created a magazine called Fools, and studied journalism at the School of International Training in Morocco.
Other audio projects included working on the Mothership podcast, and Cup of Politics.
I, and a small team, have developed Parks over the last year. We are an independent podcast and rely on donations to pay for parts of production and contributing back to our storytellers communities in the name of reciprocity.
Parks is a journalistic project that not only explains past and present environmental injustices, but it also explores what in-depth reporting would look like if we asked deeper questions about the colonial aspects of journalism and how to adjust them for subject matter. Parks aims to change many ethical issues that we want to see in future journalism, including decolonizing our language, along with a lot more.
