About Leila

I’m a journalist and audio producer based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I’m interested in economics (among many other things!) and have reported on financial tech tools for domestic workers, hiring trends during the coronavirus pandemic and the hidden world of online returns. You may have heard my work on the airwaves (or the internet) on NPR, Marketplace, WYSO, New Hampshire Public Radio, Wondery and the Coney Island History Project.

Before my radio days, I taught classes for two years at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, Indonesia as a Shansi Fellow. I studied at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies and Oberlin College. My name is pronounced the opposite of whatever your first guess was.
