Katy Sewall

I'm a host with the work ethic and skills of a senior producer, and a senior producer with an ear for good interviewing. People always ask, "How do you keep coming up with ideas?" Truth is, I've never come close to running out.

About Katy

I've been a radio professional for over 15 years, most of those senior producing and hosting for KUOW Public Radio in Seattle. For 9 years, I ran their flagship 2-hour-daily morning show "Weekday," also acting as fill-in host. I also produced live stage versions of the show, performing for audiences of 900+. I've been trained by the best in the industry: "Radiolab" (Intern) "A Prairie Home Companion" (touring with, writing for, producing) David Candow (hosting and writing classes) Stephen Tobolowsky (storytelling classes) I'm currently creator and co-host of "The Bittersweet Life," a weekly podcast that has inspired people all over the world to look at life in a deeper, richer way. My co-host is also an expert in Roman history and art, so if you love Italy (and dream of living there) this is the show for you. The show is 6+ years old now, and famous authors and scholars regularly appear. People like Anthony Doerr ("All the Light We Cannot See"), Mo Rocca (Mobituaries), Jane Alexander (award-winning actress), and Paul Theroux (travel writer) just to name a few recents. I'm also a podcast consultant, working with news organizations, businesses, and foundations to think through podcast ideas and explain, realistically, what time and talents are required to pull it off. I'm regularly hired to interview big name guests (on-stage or taped), and I have been hired to teach interviewing both locally and internationally. I have the ability to host (live on-air, on-stage, or taped), senior produce, podcast consult, create sound-rich features, report in the field, edit other people's work, and write creatively for broadcast. I have hosted and produced countless radio features, documentaries, and live broadcasts. My daily radio background makes me faster (and a little less precious) than some, and I also have a deep understanding of what appeals to the listener. I am currently freelancing - based in Seattle, WA
