Jessica is available forI want to work as a producer or an editor for projects that have a strong history and culture focus. I want to be involved in recording interviews and crafting stories.
My love for storytelling started in elementary school. My second grade teacher introduced me to fables with wise spiders, crafty foxes, and determined turtles. My seven-year-old self was inspired and wrote a story about a narcissistic skunk who learns the importance of friendship. Since then, I have been drawn to entertainment that teaches new perspectives and challenges norms.
Eight years ago, I was drawn to podcasting through a chance encounter with the founders of the Atlanta Fringe Festival. They wanted the theatre festival to have a podcasting network to showcase audio artists’ work. I was a novice to podcasting, but I spearheaded the network. From there, I taught myself how to use audio equipment.
In 2014 I moved to Haiti hoping to rediscover my love for writing. The five years I spent in Haiti, pushed me to my mental, physical, and creative extremes. I thrived. I won a grant from the Puffin Foundation and tried my hand at a multilingual podcast series. I also used podcasting and radio as a communication tool for USAID and other organizations in Haiti’s public health sector. Thanks to my time in Haiti, I grew my editing skills and love for storytelling.
Now that I am back in the States, I am eager to work on projects that are creatively daring and seek to enhance the listeners’ knowledge of culture and history. My strengths are crafting and editing stories.
