Democracy Works is a weekly podcast produced by the McCourtney Institute for Democracy at Penn State and WPSU, central Pennsylvania's NPR station. I am the show's producer and one of its hosts. Each episode examines a different aspect of what it means to live in a democracy — from big concepts like neoliberalism or demagoguery to more tangible things like voting by mail and the power of protest.
This eight-part narrative series explores how ballot initiatives and the people who organize them have shaped American democracy. I came up with the idea for the series and shaped each episode based on more than 50 interviews and hundreds of hours of research on ballot initiative campaigns. I also narrated the series and executed a successful marketing campaign for its launch in summer 2022.
