I'm looking for projects that are hard. The projects that pose hard question, look hard at the responses, require work to build relationships with affected communities, and maybe even require sleeping on a hard floor once in a while. These are the kind of projects that excite me. I'm also looking for projects that are looking to amplify voices that often aren't often heard. I'm looking for projects that seek to understand what it means to live in a world that often overlooks the fallout of colonization and how it affects people's relationships with each other, themselves, and with other communities.
I'm no stranger to being a self-starter, whether that means working on a personal photo project documenting the lucrative avocado industry in Michoacán without any backing, or plunging into my community to learn more about how undocumented farmworkers navigate the complex relationship of providing a deep need for a country that doesn't recognize them.
An avid collector of restaurant take-out menus and T-shirts, I've spent a good few years in the service industry and uses those experiences to fuel my curiosities and develop my stories. You'll likely find me searching for the perfect bowl of menudo or in the middle of a street with a camera or recording equipment in hand — if you see me, be kind enough to warn me if there's a car coming my way.
