About Emily
Emily Shaw crafts award-winning podcasts that engage listeners. She got her start conducting a rogue oral history project in Vietnam in 2013, and went on to study audio documentary and podcasting at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies, Women’s Audio Mission, Writing Pad, UnionDocs, and SoundPath.
Emily honed her interviewing and sound design chops as the host and producer of Cozy Boat, an intimate, music-infused podcast about creativity and passion. Since then, she’s produced original audio content for YouTube, Google, Meta, Spotify, Headspace, Gimlet, and more. In her free time, she enjoys recording sounds like the Golden Gate Bridge hum, and making audio art.
In previous lives, Emily scaled Operations as Employee #1 of a mobile app startup, and taught on four continents.

Emily worked closely with YouTube’s Culture & Trends team to develop the show from idea through launch. She assembled the right team for the job, overseeing all aspects of audio production and providing strategic guidance to YouTube on their first-ever trends podcast.
Sunday Scaries Student Edition is a limited series produced in partnership with Headspace and Spotify. On the show, meditation teacher Dora Kamau joins forces with teenage podcaster Gael Aitor to discuss issues ranging from breakups to body image.
Emily acted as showrunner and lead producer for the 6 episode series, running editorial meetings, producing and editing interviews, and overseeing the show writer and engineer.
Hosted by Jake Heggie, Sing LOUDER explores the high wire act of life as an opera singer. Project scope included full Season 1 development, from idea through production and launch.
“We listeners feel as if we’re eavesdropping on a dialogue between friends, rather than sitting through another celebrity interview…You never know which way the conversation is going to turn in these podcasts, which is half the fun.” - Chicago Tribune
