About Elizabeth

I am an audio journalist from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I am deeply passionate about creating compelling and empathetic audio journalism that helps people better understand the world we live in. I am particularly passionate about the importance of accessibility in journalism and trauma-informed reporting techniques. I am deeply excited about long-form audio and sound design that moves that narrative forward. Beyond my passion for audio, I am a lover of all things art history, specifically indigenous modernism, photography, and 14th-16th century architecture.

 

Outside of my professional interests, I am also a person! (Can you believe it?) Crafting is a big part of my life. I love to knit, embroider, crochet, and paint. You can catch me spending my free time hiking, creating trinkets, and reading. I am a godmother to an amazing dog named Amour and a very involved dog aunt to all of my friends who are lucky enough to have a good boy or girl at home.

Navigating the Inevitable
Death and dying are facts of life that can be difficult to navigate, understand, and live with. This podcast aims to tell stories about this inevitability that help you live with dying, and all that it means. These are stories about death that are meant to help you live.

Navigating the Inevitable is an independent venture by producer Elizabeth Kauma. She decided to create this podcast after thinking about what unique experiences and perspectives she could bring to a reporting project. After graduating high school she was an emotional support volunteer for Hospice patients dying alone. Meaning she was the only person visiting them that wasn't involved in their medical care or estate planning.

That experience gave Elizabeth a deep understanding of the dying process and the anxieties it creates. When thinking of a reporting project, Kauma came up with the idea for a podcast that told stories that help you hold your mortality.
