I’m a journalist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. My work has appeared in NPR, Minnesota Public Radio (where I was a reporter/producer for four years), the Star Tribune, Paste, the National Catholic Reporter and plenty of other good outlets that are less eye-catching. My specialties are environment and climate change reporting, but I’ve covered everything from the Iowa caucuses to birdwatching in a cold winter. In addition to the writing and reporting, I also have experience as a composer.
I was the associate producer and composer for the Minnesota Public Radio podcast Rivers of Oil, described as "a look at how the pipelines beneath our feet, from Keystone XL to Dakota Access to Line 3, have come to the forefront of an epic tug of war between reliance and risk — and how we all have a role to play in this story."
Rural Minnesota’s lack of shelters make homeless an ‘invisible population’
A third of Minnesotans experiencing homelessness live in rural areas, but there are little or no resources for them. This story explores how people survive in crisis when there are few resources to help, through the lens of one woman and her kids' journey to find housing.
On the North Shore, many hands work to help a dying forest
Reported from deep in the Superior National Forest, this pice examines how environmental and conservation groups are trying to save northeastern Minnesota’s forests that have been ravaged for over a century by logging and, more recently, climate change.
