About Claire
I'm a podcast producer, science reporter and community engagement editor attracted to projects that highlight underrepresented voices, expose wrongdoing and benefit the public.
I recently graduated from Columbia University's graduate school of journalism with a M.A. in science journalism. My work has appeared on NPR and PBS NewsHour and won regional, national and international awards.
My specialties include podcast production, radio documentaries, narrative writing and fact-checking. I also have ample experience teaching podcasting workshops to high school and college students, voice coaching and consulting on passion projects. When I'm not in the field, I'm blogging about books and re-watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Reporting, Writing & Producing: I'm looking for full-time or contract audio work that highlights underrepresented voices, exposes wrongdoing or directly addresses the public's needs.
Consulting & Voice Coaching: Have a podcast you want to get off the ground? Struggling with writing, narration or music? Need resources on podcast production and distribution? Email me a short description of your project with the subject line "Coaching" and we can discuss rates, which include discounts for students and nonprofits!
Teaching & Workshops: I’ve given dozens of free, 45-minute presentations to high school and college classes. I can customize my podcasting 101 presentation for your class project, and past presentations have covered the basics of creating a history or science podcast, the difference between radio and podcast production and how to collect and use nat sound. I prioritize public/state schools and free after-school programs but am happy to work with private schools and scout programs based on availability. If you're interested, email me a short description of the project and your class time(s) with the subject line "Podcast presentation.”

Nearly half of all Native Hawaiians now live outside Hawaii. It’s a figure that raises a lot of painful questions about identity, family and culture. I produced this award-winning season of the Offshore podcast, which took a deep dive into the Native Hawaiian diaspora and shared the stories of Native Hawaiians abroad, past and present.

I directed News21's first documentary, which exposed disparities in access to clean drinking water. I embedded with Native American communities in Montana and New Jersey, coordinated 15 reporters across 8 states and edited the footage into a cohesive 30-minute film. The documentary aired on PBS NewsHour and won a Rocky Mountain Emmy and a Webby.

I wrote, produced and hosted this Q-and-A podcast for Civil Beat. The project uncovered wrongdoing, led to government change and attracted a young, diverse audience. It recently won 1st place in science reporting from Hawaii SPJ. Judge's comments: "Claire's environmental journalism is informative, engaging and devoid of preaching or talking down to readers."

I'm the producer and host of Arts. Work. Life, a podcast from the Association of Performing Arts Professionals that features bold, untold personal stories from arts workers.
Season 1 of Arts. Work. Life was recently named top podcast of 2022 by Association Trends.
I select submissions, conduct interviews, edit the stories into non-narrated pieces, write narration, host, score and sound mix.
