About Chris

I began my audio career volunteering at legendary freeform FM station WFMU, cutting tape with razor blades and hosting/DJing. Parlayed that experience into an Audio Engineer job with NPR's NY Bureau, working my way up from freelancer to full-time staff. I've also mixed live news for CBS Radio, ran the parabolic mic on the sidelines of NFL games and served as talk show host and DJ a dozen years for SiriusXM. I'm currently working as an Independent Audio Producer, producing long-form Originals for Audible, creating and launching an internet radio station, editing and mixing podcasts and doing tape syncs. My extensive experience on “both sides of the mic” and credentials as a published writer give me a unique combination of skills. •I manage and develop talent, most recently, multiple Moth StorySlam winner Adam Wade on his Audible Original. I’ve been an on-air host and know the job. •I possess solid editing and story-telling credentials, structuring narratives for audio and my writing has been published nationally, including in Carrier Pigeon. •I’ve interviewed hundreds of famous people and know how to book guests and prep hosts. •I crank out smart, compelling content fast for a variety of platforms, from social to print to air, currently producing my own weekly newsletter. •I have a creative vision for new content and topic generation, my bread and butter, specializing in offbeat approaches that make listeners hear things anew. •I’ve produced several long-form, non fiction podcasts at SiriusXM, pioneering the shows Greenhorn and Sixty Miles. •I currently host the live, call-in talk show Aerial View, which also becomes a podcast after it airs. •I oversee teams, contribute to diverse, creative, high-performance cultures and care personally, challenging directly to produce high levels of “buy in”. •I think big and create memorable audio, conceiving and executing prominent “driveway moment” in shows including Addicted America, about opioids, on SiriusXM. •I have decades of experience producing live indoor & outdoor broadcasts from small bars to massive seasonal events like Coney Island USA's Mermaid Parade, of which I've been MC since 1987. •I’m organized and manage myriad daily details of production, using apps, databases and spreadsheets to keep track of details and deadlines. •I’m resourceful and solve problems quickly, pioneering many last-minute solutions, like using Skype to supplant a dead phone system. •I edit and mix high quality programming with Adobe Audition (which I’ve used since it was Cool Edit Pro) and I’m a certified Pro Tools user. •I evaluate content/quality/sound and act decisively, beginning my broadcast career cutting tape, literally making razor’s edge decisions. •I produce programs of national quality, engineering and producing pieces and commentaries for All Things Considered, Morning Edition, This American Life, etc. •I’m a self-starter, working effectively with minimal supervision and don’t need hand-holding or micro-management, having initiative and good judgement. •I’m cool under deadline and work effectively with others because live radio taught me “The show must go on”. •My organizational and communication skills are strong: as host of a popular talk show I kept many plates spinning, using humor and knowledge on the air. •I’ve designed sound for theatrical productions and scored my own podcasts Greenhorn and Job Story. •I know ISDN, telephone, and Skype interfaces. I’ve conducted interviews for the air via Skype and I own a Comrex Access, which I’ve used extensively. I’m hardworking, responsible and accountable. Here’s what a former SiriusXM manager said about me: “Chris Tsakis is a legitimate "Jack-of-All-Trades". He has a broad base of knowledge that he skillfully employs as an on-air host and program producer. He understands the technical and structural process that goes into making audio content, but also has the cleverness and creativity to put that knowledge to good use.” My ability to communicate, organize, motivate, think on my feet and find humor in any situation makes me an absolute asset in-studio or in the field.
