About Carter

I am a sound designer, editor, and engineer working in the fiction and narrative podcast and audiobook industries.

As an independent consultant with San Diego-based publishing services company AuthorImprints, I specialize in helping self-published authors record and release their own audiobooks. I guide and educate authors through the recording process as well as handle editing, mastering, and distribution setup to provide full-scope project management of the audiobook production process.

Within podcasting, I specialize in sound designing and editing fiction podcasts and audio dramas. Recent credits include Realm’s If I Go Missing the Witches Did It and Fred Greenhalgh’s The Dark Tome. Drawing on my roots in the audiobook industry and my film and theater sound design studies from college, I strive to accurately translate the intention and tone of each project from a written medium to that of audio.

My in-depth understanding of both the self-publishing and podcasting space gives me a unique position from which to approach creative projects where the written word meets audio and oral storytelling.

I received my BA in Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts with a minor in Digital Video and Film Production from UC San Diego. My studies revolved around sound’s technological mediation, including the recording arts, programming and sound synthesis within computer music environments, composition, and film sound design. My last year also saw my involvement in theater sound design projects, first as assistant sound designer for the graduate production The Venetian Twins, premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse, and then as sound designer for UCSD’s Undergraduate New Play Festival, for which I sound designed three plays.
