About Boen
I'm an independent audio producer with an extensive 7-year background in nonfiction writing of all genres: journalism, longform stories, personal essays, criticism, and more. I'm currently an MFA student in creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh, and will graduate in April 2022.
My written work has appeared in The Sunday Long Read, The Fourth River, Inheritance, and elsewhere; my audio work won the “Best New Artist” award at the 2020 Third Coast International Audio Festival, was selected as one of The Bello Collective’s “100 Outstanding Podcasts of 2020,” and was shortlisted for the 2021 HearSay Audio Festival Prize.
Boen's Portfolio
Infinties
An immersive audio memoir about what it's like to be in my mind circa late 2018 as I develop bipolar disorder, play Egyptian Ray Screw, experience a manic episode, discover possible embezzlement, over-analyze Haruki Murakami, and reflect upon the nature of infinity.
Awarded "Best New Artist" at 2020 Third Coast, selected as one of the Bello Collective's "100 Outstanding Podcasts of 2020," and recently broadcast on KCRW's Bodies.
Notes on Cycling
A lyric audio essay about buying a bike and being sad, although not necessarily in that order.
Shortlisted for the 2021 HearSay Audio Festival.
Tiananmen: An Oral History
My in-progress master's thesis, where I interview ordinary people about how they personally were impacted by the Tiananmen Square Massacre in Beijing, 1989.
