About Allison

Allison Behringer is an award-winning narrative audio journalist and podcast producer.

She is the creator, host and producer of Bodies, a feminist documentary podcast supported by NPR-affiliate KCRW. Each episode is the journey of one person (specifically women and marginalized genders) to solve their medical mystery. It combines intimate, nuanced storytelling with health reporting to uncover the layers that affect health, like racism, sexism, and capitalism.

Bodies won Third Coast Festival's 2020 Best Documentary Bronze Award and won the 2020 Online News Association's Journalism Award for Excellence in Audio Storytelling. Bodies has received critical acclaim from HuffPostBello CollectiveElleTimeThe New York Review of Books and more.

Allison is also a founding member of the Rough Cut Collective, which provides honest, compassionate, and on-demand feedback for audio stories. Formerly, she worked on The Cut podcast as an editor and producer (check out the episode "You Might Actually Be In Love With Your Best Friend").

Allison has given lectures and led workshops about podcasting at WNYC's Werk It Conference, Spotify's Sound Up Fellowship, PRX's Podcast Garage, AIR Media and guest lectured for university journalism courses.

She got her start in podcasting as the host and producer of The Intern, a first-person narrative documentary about navigating the startup tech world at betaworks and living in NYC.

She was born and raised in Maryland. And after graduating from Princeton University, she taught English in northern Thailand with Princeton in Asia, then returned to the States to teach 10th grade in the Bronx. Allison also helped to launch a adolescent health education non-profit in India. She studied writing and multimedia at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.

Allison lives in Brooklyn, NY. She loves outdoor adventures, cooking, dancing, and riding her bike everywhere she goes.
