I am looking for contract or full-time work: reporting, producing, or story editing! I take large topics and figure out character-driven stories to make that topic engaging. I listen to piles of tape, find the gems, and craft compelling narratives. I can quickly pull together and sound design pieces on Pro Tools or Hindenburg.- Editing

About Alexa
I'm a radio reporter and producer, and I love finding nuanced stories in unexpected places. In my previous life I spent seven years in the classroom as a special education teacher. I know how to ask good questions, and am willing to make myself look like a goofball to get good tape! I'm organized, a strong communicator, and a collaborative team leader. I hope to continue highlighting the voices of children and adults of different abilities through storytelling.

Back to Pineland
Drive about 20 miles north of Portland, Maine and you’ll arrive at Pineland. It looks like a college campus: brick buildings with stately pillars, it’s surrounded by rolling hills. But Pineland’s exterior doesn’t tell you about its history. It opened as an institution for people with disabilities in 1908. Alexa Burke spoke with people who lived and worked at Pineland to learn about the history of institutionalization and the legacies that remain today.

A Simple Tune
In this non-narrated piece, piano tuner Vincent George reflects on aging and legacy as he tunes a piano. Throughout the piece Vinny directs our attention to the notes that are in and out of tune, and makes us question -- “Can you hear hear the difference?”
Debby and Bob
Debby loves to sing, but her husband Bob had a horrible voice, so they never sung together. But their love story began with music, as they snuck off and listened to records in caverns of Ohio. Now in her 70s, Debby reflects on how she and Bob used their voices to navigate decades of marriage--through scream therapy, silence, and song.
