Story of the Week: 24 Hours in an Endangered Diner

Little Pete’s Diner has been the greasy spoon of choice for Philadelphia’s Center City residents and workers for more than 37 years. The all-night diner has managed to stay more or less the same while the neighborhood around it has changed rapidly. But even Little Pete’s can’t withstand gentrification.

Finding America production Every ZIP Philadelphia created this monument of sound and visuals to the Philly institution. Watch and listen to the video, then go to Every ZIP’s page for more images from photographer Neal Santos, and audio stories captured by lead producer Alex Lewis. Even John Hodgman agrees:

Every ZIP Philadelphia is a community storytelling project with the goal of taking WHYY to all 48 ZIP codes in Philadelphia. If you’re in Philadelphia, join Every ZIP for a night of live storytelling and music on March 25.
