Freelance Isn't Free Chicago

Tuesday, June 11, 2024
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

Chicago Audio Club, The Freelancers Union, and Haymarket Books are hosting a networking event for Chicago freelancers from all creative industries.

Come to network, talk best practices, and strategize about overcoming the unexpected challenges of client work.

Tuesday, June 11 · 7 - 8pm CDT

In particular, we’ll discuss a new law coming into effect in July in Chicago: the Freelance Worker Protection Act. This act protects freelancers and ensures they receive the financial compensation they're entitled to, as well as provide important legal safety nets should a client attempt to avoid payment.

Come learn about how it will help you get paid when you’re supposed to, and the national movement to improve freelancer worker’s rights.

We’ll be joined by Rafael Espinal, Executive Director of The Freelancers Union, to discuss the legislation, and power of collective organizing. Rafael is a former New York City Councilmember and New York State Assemblymember. In 2020, Rafael became the Executive Director of the Freelancers Union after a long history of advocating for the rights of freelance workers.

This event is organized by the Chicago Audio Club and AIR Member Eliza Lambert-Arnold.
