Stacy Bond's Bio
Stacy feels there are times when people in radio don't understand what radio producers actually do, and why they are important. She can help define the various roles of a producer, what it means to convey editorial content through sound, and discuss some of the challenges that arise when the bulk of folks in a radio newsroom come from print media.
Stacy Bond is currently the producer of "The California Report," an award winning, statewide public radio news magazine hosted by Scott Shafer. The show is produced in San Francisco at KQED -- the most listened to public radio station in the country.
Stacy has been producing a variety of radio news and talk programming on and off for more than fifteen years. In 1999 she went on board at NPR in Washington, and assisted Jeffrey Dvorkin as he established the Office of the Ombudsman. Later, as an editor/producer on Talk of the Nation, Stacy was part of the team that produced NPR's Peabody Award-winning round-the-clock special coverage of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Stacy has worked closely with a number of hosts -- including Neil Conan, Diane Rehm, Steve Inskeep, Juan Williams, and Lynn Neary. She's also produced features for Morning Edition, Justice Talking, and Day to Day among others.
She's a crew producer for "B-Side," a monthly program that airs on KALX in Berkeley, and she's just written two chapters on news producing for the forthcoming O'Reilly Hack book on podcasting.
Along with co-producer Emilie Cole, Stacy is in the process of launching AudioLuxe, a non-profit news service dedicated to producing dynamic, engaging audio content. This fall, they'll begin work on the pilot episodes of a program aimed at bringing more young listeners to public radio.
