Jad Abumrad's Bio
Jad Abumrad is the host and producer of WNYC's Radio Lab, an award-winning radio series that explores big ideas through conversation, sound & storytelling. Jad would like to credit his mother with inspiring Radio Lab: As a child, he would watch her mix hazardous materials together into strange concoctions. He would play with the rats in her laboratory, put them in his pocket, give them names.
He chose a different path. Trained at Oberlin College's Conservatory of Music (in music composition and creative writing), Jad creates lush aural worlds for his radio stories. Prior to joining WNYC, Jad worked as an independent reporter/producer/documentary-maker for a variety of local and national programs, including All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday and Sunday, Morning Edition, On the Media, Soundprint and Studio 360. He was also a member of the team that launched The Next Big Thing and has been a teacher-mentor for WNYC's Radio Rookies. Jad has also written music for several films.
