Barry Rueger's Bio
For nearly 20 years Barry Rueger has worked with non-profit organizations, with a particular focus on non-commercial radio. He is on the Board of The Association of Independents in Radio (AIR), until recently was Board member of the Appalshop, an Appalachian media arts organization in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and is currently part of the steering committee of a new Hamilton, Ontario, film and video production co-op.
Previously Barry worked at CKCU Radio Carleton in Ottawa, Canada, guiding a major restructuring and financial overhaul. He has also been involved in leadership roles at CFMU at McMaster University in Hamilton and Vancouver Co-op Radio in Vancouver. In 1996 he managed the National Campus and Community Radio Conference in Hamilton, Ontario.
In recent years Barry has become recognized for his ongoing work with new and emerging community radio broadcasters, and received a People Who Make A Difference award from the Community Foundation of Ottawa. He continues to guide and shape the direction of campus and community radio in Canada. He can always be counted on by novice broadcasters to provide guidance on the business of radio.
