Executive Director Johanna Zorn formerly was the long-time producer of Chicago Public Radio's acclaimed documentary series Chicago Matters. She's behind every aspect of this project: she plans the competition, the festival weekend, secures funding -- everything.

Managing Director Julie Shapiro has been with the Festival since its inaugural year (2000). Before moving to Chicago she worked at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, and while living in North Carolina she also produced Storylines Southeast, a public radio series about literature from that region. She was assistant director of Transmissions, an annual experimental, minimal, electronic sound and art festival from 1998-2001. Shapiro makes audio art for public presentation and can occasionally be heard on the public radio airwaves.
