PROJECT DIRECTOR

Overview: A new 22-month AIR initiative is expected to launch in fall 2011. The Project Director of this initiative will work closely with AIR's Executive Director and staff, and will be principally responsible for establishing and executing the key activities of the project.

Position description:
Administration: Project Director will oversee all aspects of the initiative, including project launch and execution; acting as liaison to AIR's lead producers, stations, and other constituencies connected to the project, in order that all principals meet deadlines and maintain forward-moving progress according to an established timeline; maintaining adequate record-keeping and backup of all records; writing feature articles and blog posts; drafting and reviewing project-related materials such as FAQ, legal agreements, guidelines, press releases, communiqués, etc.

Fundraising: Project Director will support cultivation and development of funders relations as requested and directed by AIR Executive Director, and will coordinate/prepare all funder reports by or in advance of deadlines.

Advisory/Selection Committee Management: Project Director will serve as the primary liaison to members of the Advisory/Selection Committee that will select producers and station "incubators," and is primarily responsible for managing all of their activities. Duties also include developing lists of prospective producers and their "incubator" organizations and providing guidance and oversight as the initiative progresses.

Presentations and Intensives: Project Director will represent the project at various industry gatherings, including convening a series of sessions connecting lead producers and other producers with programs, organizations, and/or broadcast outlets. He or she will a lead role in organizing and convening the Concept Workshop at the beginning of the local projects and the debriefing at the conclusion of the local projects.

Skills required:  Design/implementation of large-scale public media initiatives; experience working with public radio and television stations and producers; editorial; home/remote office required

CONTRACT MANAGER

Overview: AIR's Contract Manager (CM) plays an important role as AIR gears up for its new 22-month initiative. The CM will work with the Project Director and AIR's Executive Director, and is principally responsible for executing the draft agreements with each of the local production teams and shepherding them through to completion, in addition to working on funder reports throughout the term of the project.

Position description: Responsibilities include supporting the AIR staff in the administration of the initiative's projects; advising on the development of the new template agreement; providing a review of each project's contract prior to its distribution; participating in a "Concepts Workshop"; conferring with producers and stations regarding their responsibilities, budgets, etc.; providing instructions on how they should manage their receipts and how they should best communicate with AIR; checking in with each producer and station; red-flagging potential problems; collecting producer reports and drafting reports to CPB; updating AIR and meeting with AIR staff as necessary.

Skills required:  Legal, administrative, financial; experience with CPB contracts; familiarity/experience working with public media producers and stations ideal; home/remote office required

ONLINE STRATEGIST/BLOGGER

Overview: AIR is currently endeavoring to building a network of individuals and organizations that share its vision of a new public media. The Online Strategist/Blogger (OSB) uses online communication tools to build and nurture new relationships across the station-producer network as well as to strengthen public media producers’ and decision-makers’ identification with AIR as an essential window into innovative transmedia storytelling. A key member of the AIR team who helps shape and redefine public media through AIR's 2011 initiative, the OSB has administrative direct report to AIR's Executive Director and works day to day in close partnership with the project director.

Position description: Responsibilities include editorial oversight of AIR's blog and social media channeling; managing AIR's Facebook and Twitter accounts; with the Project Director, being principally responsible for expanding a new network of those inside and outside public media invested in transformative work; consulting the Project Director and AIR's Executive Director on the design and implementation of all aspects of AIR's new 22-month initiative; working with Project Director to expand and develop the an on-line network, targeting individuals at broadcast stations and from within the ranks of producers; serving as lead blogger and social mediaist, working to promote and bring to visibility to the inner workings of the local media projects as they develop and launch; organizing and publishing a resource guide derived from the new initiative; and working with the Project Director, Executive Director, and other members of the team to develop and organize a gatherings for lead producers and station incubator staff.

In addition to the primary duties and responsibilities listed above, OSB is responsible for guiding the strategic thinking relative to AIR's online/social media presence; participating in weekly staff calls and bimonthly meetings with other members of the project team; participating on the AIR listserv, in webinars, and other relevant partner activities; representing AIR and the initiative at various industry-convening events — online and on location; and being principally responsible for maintaining AIR's social media accounts, including monitoring updates, recommending changes, forging new approaches, and advising on advertising campaigns or other strategies.

Skills required: Sophisticated understanding and experience in digital media, impact, and on-line strategy; editorial (writer and editor); established on-line profile and public speaking experience ideal; home/remote office required

OFFICE MANAGER

Position type: PT administrative

Overview: AIR's Office Manager is principally responsible for overseeing day-to-day support for the administration of operations at AIR's Boston headquarters, including record-keeping and filing; correspondence and routine communication with members and outside vendors; and bookkeeping.

Position description: Administrative responsibilities include maintaining records and member database, responding to communiqués, monitoring member e-mails, etc.; with Executive Director (ED), representing AIR at events; providing logistical support for travel, site meetings, and events; and developing and executing membership surveys and reports, and advising ED on findings and conclusions.

Bookkeeping/Financial duties include creating and implementing a tracking and filing system to account for expenditures of outside production teams involved in AIR's new 22-month initiative (scheduled to launch in fall 2011); assisting ED, Membership Director, and bookkeeper in maintaining billing records, banking documentation, etc.; and serving as primary liaison to AIR members for whom AIR is serving as Fiscal Sponsor.

Communications and Publications duties include maintaining distribution lists; drafting memos, e-mail messages, one-sheets, other communiqués as requested/directed by the ED; and posting/disseminating AIR announcements and publications via the AIRdaily or direct e-mails to members, AIR's wider constituency, press, and other lists and listservs.

Skills required: Communications and writing; book-keeping; high organizational skills; spreadsheets and graphics; work from Boston office

Compensation: PT salaried position with some benefits; competitive compensation
