The Speed of Change
As we wind down 2009, we continue our reflections on the impact of the dramatic shifts of the last year. This issue is pegged to an excellent piece by freelance producer Sally Herships, "Podcasting: Nice work if you can get it." Also featured, what podcasts are people listening to? And the gift to give the hard-to-buy-for person in your life — an AIR T-shirt, of course. Read on, click, and listen!

Podcasting:
Nice work if you can get it
By Sally Herships
As recently as a year ago, podcasting appeared to be a burgeoning cottage industry for ambitious independents. Their services were sought after by The New Yorker, The Economist, the Poetry Foundation, and other organizations that were getting into the podcasting business. Then came the economic crash. Sally Herships looks at how these start-up enterprises and their entrepreneurial producers are faring in the recession.

Cool Tool: Podcast Maker
Podcast Maker makes podcast publishing a breeze for Mac users. But don't just take our word for it. AIRster and freelance writer and radio producer Ryan Scammell uses Podcast Maker to enhance his podcast, PHONOGRAPHY: Writing in Sound. Says Ryan, "The whole reason I use it is for its ability to create separate chapters in an individual podcast. This gives the listener a higher degree of control, to skip sections that don't really pique their interest, or to re-listen to sections that were particularly poignant for them. You can also integrate images with those chapter headings, which opens up some different creative opportunities."
Are you using a cool tool that you'd like to turn others on to — to help with your work? Share it with us at airblast@airmedia.org, and if we feature it in one of our AIRblasts, you get a free AIR T-shirt.
